After an exhausting week seeing family and driving all over the country the girls were exhausted. They actually slept in, even by Mountain Time zone standards. It proved to be difficult to find a place in town to eat breakfast, so we fed the girls what we had at the hotel and headed off. The challenge came when we realized there was no cell phone service in the area. Which is okay, but that means no GPS on the phone. We weren't sure exactly how were were going to get on the road back home. We had to track down a map to help us. Luckily the tourist shop with maps and information is never closed, everything else open later than we wanted to wait around for. One last shot of the Mississippi river as we headed into Iowa...and off to Nebraska
Winter quarters was a shorter trip then we expected...we pushed through without stopping for lunch. The girls didn't complain so we arrived at the visitors center to be instructed on the trek west. All Brittlynn kept asking is are we to the place they are safe. Yes...safe, but not home yet. We saw the picture on the wall showing the expedition from Nauvoo across the frozen Mississippi river an amazing miracle for the saints.
The girls enjoyed exploring all the exhibits...trying on clothes...pulling a handcart...and seeing all the cool statues of the pioneers.
After we were done at the visitors center, we walked across the street look at the temple. We love seeing the temple and most of all Savannah loves to touch the temple. President Monson said, "by touching the temple, we allow the temple to touch us."
We ate a fast lunch and decided to make it a long day a drive straight home so we could sleep in our own bed. It was the best choice that we made. Home is always the place you want to be after a long road trip.
