Its amazing how fast time flies. We have been a family for seen years. Eric and I decided we would go on a trip together...without kids. Something that doesn't happen that often since Savannah was born. The only other time we have been on a trip together was to run a race. So we decided to go to San Diego, California. My sister was kind enough to take the girls for the week so we made the drive to Vegas. Of course we had to stop at our favorite place to eat on the way there. Since Emily wasn't with us we decided to take some picture for her to make her a little jealous.
Brittlynn decided that stickers belong all over her body. She is a funny girl.
We arrived in Las Vegas just after lunch and it was instant cousin fun and friendship. That is something I love about family. Even when you don't see each other for that long you have a best friend as soon as you walk in the door. I just wish we were able to spend more time together with cousins.
The next morning the adventures for Eric and Polly began. The best part about it all is we didn't hit any traffic. After our last adventure there we were excited. It also makes the drive to California so much nicer. California is really a beautiful state, especially when you get out of the Los Angeles area of traffic and smog. The wine country is beautiful with green rolling hills and San Diego was a treat.
Since the drive was so fast and we could check into our hotel yet we went to Balboa park to enjoy some of the free museums they had there for military. We walk through an art museum and went to the Japanese gardens. Eric never thought he would find himself in a museum, but luckily for him I move very fast through everything. It was fun to start naming the different pieces of art work. The best one...that was even used my the museum was "The Man." We couldn't take any pictures while in the museum and then when we got to the garden we realized the camera was dead. We are just grateful for an Iphone that has a great camera. The cherry blossoms were so beautiful.
Gotta love this one with the green dork dot...that is how we got in for free.
A classic picture with Polly sticking out her tongue.
Just being silly.
We stayed at the Naval Lodge on Coronado Island. That is a complete other world. We went to dinner...seafood of course and then went exploring the island. Polly had to find the beach and see the ocean. There is just something so wonderful about walking barefoot in the sand and listening to ocean waves. Eric realized that he was seeing another side of Polly it was like she was a kid all over again.
Being in the marine makes it hard to see the sunset with the fog that rolls in. But is was still so beautiful and so very exciting. We went back to the Navy base to explore a little bit only to realize we were in the wrong hotel. There is a resort lodge right on the ocean. We were in base lodging. Not the same thing for sure. It was too late to switch for the night and so we ended up staying two nights in one room and then switch the last night to the better hotel.
The next morning was exciting. Polly was going to the temple an Eric was going to go golfing. The original plan was for Eric to go to Torrey Pines. Then he started to think about the cost. He wasn't sure if he should pay that much to golf when he hadn't been golfing in so long. I decided to make up his mind and convinced him to just go. He called the golf course to figure out what he needed to do to go golfing....show up at 5:30 and you will get a tee time. That meant leaving around 5:00. That was an early morning. It was so worth it all. It was an experience that was priceless. For those of you who golf you will love how beautiful this is. When he got there he decided to golf the south side which was less...he was trying to be kind and save a little on his adventure. He enjoyed the people that he golfed with and had a great day. He was so glad he listened to his wife.
While Eric was at the golf course Polly was supposed to go to the temple. The problem was she realized the night before that it was closed for cleaning. She didn't tell Eric until the next morning when they were in the parking lot of Torrey Pines. She knew that he wouldn't go if he realized she didn't have anything to do. (Such a tricky girl) She convinced him that she would be just fine. So she went to the temple to take pictures. It is such a beautiful place. It was great to watch the sun come up around the temple. It was a wonderful morning to be on such sacred grounds.
After the temple it was time to get some breakfast and run to the store. We decided we would bring sand back for the girls with sea shells from our trip. So we needed some jars to put them in. After a short trip to target Polly found the beach. It was just down from the golf course and she could have stayed all day long. The view was beautiful and there was a wonderful trail that you could walk down to get to the beach.
This is a view looking down from the trail...it reminded me of the incline that is in Colorado springs

Could you ask for anything more breath taking?
This a view of one of the holes at Torrey Pines from the ocean. I love the cliff's that lead to this ocean. I spent the morning collecting sea shell listening to the ocean and enjoying the just a relaxing morning. I found some amazing sea shells while walking. The worst part of the morning is the man that decided he needed to run naked down the shore line and then back by me again. Eric was happy to find out that I had found something to do to pass my time and I enjoyed every minute. He was worried I might be a little bored.
We weren't sure were to go to lunch so I asked a friend that had been stationed in San Diego. She recommended the Cottage. It was a nice little restaurant tucked away in a little shopping center. What a great recommendation.
We decided to spend the rest of the evening on the island. After a little nap from we were ready for another adventure. We decided to rent some bikes and go exploring. Who ever knew that bikes could be so much fun to ride. Especially when you get a sweet cruiser bike with a little bell. We rode around half of the island. We would have gone longer but the bike shop was closing.
This is a view of the bay from the island.
This is a picture of the bridge that you drive over to get to the island
The beautiful sky line.
After the bike ride we went to dinner. We had some crazy moments with Elvis on the street. Once again we missed the sunset, but we enjoyed spending the evening relaxing. On the way back to the car then we found the coolest place ever. It was a place of employment for Pollyanna. We also realized everything closes early on the island. So we called it a night.
The next day we set out on a whale watching adventure. The water was really chopping and a lot of people got sick. Luckily we didn't. We used a smaller company to go and see the whales, which was really nice because we spent a lot of time trying to see the tale of two baby whales. We were only able to see there backs. On the way back to the bay we saw two more whales and they put on a great show fore everyone. We also saw all sorts of other sea life. It was a great morning out at sea.
This is the most breath taking experience ever.
Isn't this a beautiful picture of a light house.
We had a gift card that we needed to use for dinner so we drove back to the mainland to eat that evening. That is when the fun all came to end. We got a call from the kids mom that let us know Alex had broken into our house and had been living there all whole week, with his friends.
We had switch our hotel to the one right on the beach. It was paradise. We only wish we could have been there longer and that we could have enjoyed the time there more.
The ocean right outside our room
The view from the roof top terrace on top of hotel.
With the news about our house situation we decided we needed to get home as fast as possible. So we woke up early drove to Vegas, ate lunch, picked up the girls and drove to the border of Colorado. The next morning was a terrible blizzard that we drove home in. We are so grateful we made it home alive. We found Alex and his friends still in our house, after the police had come the night before and his mom had told him to leave the night before that. We spent the rest of the day cleaning the house and putting everything back the way it was before. What an awful way to end a great weekend. There had been parties and drugs in the house, smoking in the van, food completely gone and eaten everywhere without anyone cleaning up. As a result Alex went to Ohio for spring break to stay with his Grandparents. We couldn't let him be here anymore.
What we drove home in.
An exhausting weekend.
A lot can happen to a family in seven years. For some of us it has brought us closer together and for others it has torn us completely apart.
